One important note about the application is it is only available to graduating seniors who are current members of State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) or the child or a parent/guardian who is a member of SECU at the time of application. Membership eligibility does not include Local Government Federal Credit Union or NC Press Association Credit Union members. Preference will be given to students whose parents or guardians and family members are public sector employees (state, local or federal government; public health, public education) who live and work in North Carolina. In addition, students must also be planning to attend one of the 16 public colleges/universities in North Carolina. Students attending private colleges or community colleges are not eligible for this particular SECU scholarship. If you are planning to attend a community college, you will need to contact the scholarship foundation at the community college you plan to attend to discuss the community college SECU scholarship. Lastly, if you are awarded the scholarship, you must use the scholarship money to pay for full-time undergraduate student tuition and fees only. Students must declare the number of AP or LCC CCP college credits earned on the application.
The application process has significantly changed this year, so please make sure to pay special attention to the PHP Application Process attachment. Students must first complete the membership verification process before they receive the link to the application. SECU will send the link directly to the student once it is verified that they are SECU members.
