The Black Heritage Museum and Cultural Center College Round-Up - You are invited to participate in the 14th Annual College Round-Up on March 14, 2015 in the Keihin Auditorium on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College in historic Tarboro, NC. College Round-Up's mission is the help engage students reach their goal of obtaining a post-secondary education. Registration begins at 8:00 AM and this event is FREE and open to the public. EduGuide is inviting students in grades 6-12 to create a 1-5 minute video message articulating a message of the change they want to be in the world and how they plan to achieve that. Lenoir County Public Schools welcomes all seniors and their parents to attend a FREE workshop on Financial Aid "Going to College without Going Broke." The workshop topics include: college costs, financial aid eligibility, FAFSA, state and federal grants, scholarships and loans, and CFNC resources. This important information session about Financial Aid is provided by Amy Denton, CFNC Regional Representative and local college Financial Aid Officers. The workshop will be held at Lenoir Community College Administrative Building Auditorium on Thursday, January 29 at 6:30 p.m. Again, the workshop is recommended for all high school seniors and parents as well as any juniors that would like to start getting prepared for their senior year.
Want the First Lady to Speak at Your High School Commencement? In connection with FAFSA Day, First Lady Michelle Obama has issued the FAFSA Completion Commencement Video Challenge, asking high schools across the country to submit three to five minute videos of their creative approaches to encouraging more students to fill out their FAFSA. The Shelton Challenge is a one-week summer experience for rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school. Shelton's cornerstones of values-based leadership - honesty, integrity, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility - are the foundations of the experience. By attending this program, each participant will: (1) Participate in team-building activities, (2) Access personal leadership skills and practice leadership, (3) Practice interpersonal skills, goal setting, public speaking, personal presence, and ethical decision making, and much more. The total cost for this experience is $600.00, which includes deposit, lodging, meals, and program curriculum. Scholarships may be available.
