Seniors intersted in graduating early, LCC's Cosmetology program will be accepting new student applications for the Beginner classes which will start on Monday, January 26th. The final Drop/Add date for LCC CCP classes will be December 16th. If you drop a class after this date, or get withdrawn from the class, you will be responsible for the cost of the textbook.
TRY-IT Health Rocks Training January 6-8, 2017 The cost of meals, lodging and materials will be paid for! SO IT IS TOTALLY FREE! Conference to be held in Raleigh, North Carolina Transportation Provided 4-H Agent, Alex Sugg and 4-H Program Assistant, Velvet Tyndall are Team leads. They will be in attendance. TRY-IT! Health Rocks Training will focus on utilizing the Health Rocks Curriculum. Health Rocks is: Sponsored by the National 4-H Council, Health Rocks! is a peer-reviewed, evidence-based life skill development program for youth ages 8 to 14. Through youth and adult partnerships, strategies are developed to: help youth make healthy lifestyle choices based upon knowledge; deal with peer pressure; and develop critical thinking skills, while placing emphasis on tobacco, alcohol and drug use prevention. Your 2017 Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics information letter was recently mailed to your school with details about how your rising high school juniors and seniors may apply for this program.
Summer Ventures is a cost-free, statewide science and math enrichment program for students with proven academic ability, motivation in the STEM fields of study, and emotional maturity. Summer Ventures takes students beyond the traditional boundaries of high school science and mathematics while exploring topics of interest to them and learning experimental design, laboratory skills, instrumentation, mathematical modeling, strategies in mathematical problem solving and more. At the end of the four-week residential program, students present a comprehensive research project on a current topic in a STEM field of study. The online application may be found at: www.summerventures.org The application deadline is January 15, 2017. Students are notified of admission decisions April 4, 2017. Students who receive invitations to attend will have until April 6, 2017 to respond. Links to the universities across our state offering a Summer Ventures program and their topics of study may also be found at the website. Our Summer Ventures office at East Carolina University is available to assist you with information about the application process or about the program in general. C-CATS is a program designed specifically for high achieving 10th grade students. C-CATS introduces top ranking students to Clemson University through exciting weekend adventures that engage them in the academic, social, and recreational opportunities offered at Clemson. These are weekend sessions and students can attend one of seven C-CATS weekends from March to May. If you are interested in attending, please let Mrs. Tyndall know by December 1st.
The Pink Hill Wellness and Education Center would welcome volunteers if there are seniors who need somewhere to complete their service project. They are especially in need of volunteers for their upcoming Polar Express event the first Sat. in Dec. If you are interested contact Jennifer Scott at the Wellness Center or see Mrs. Nulette Potter and she can provide more information.
