Dr. Jennifer Murphy is seeking reliable and hard working volunteers to participate in the Pink Hill Easter Egg Hunt at the Pink Hill Wellness Center. She needs help on March 30 from 6pm to around 8pm and again on March 31 from 10am to 1:30pm. If you are interested, please contact Dr. Jennifer at 252-568-6400. If she doesn't answer, please make sure to leave a voice mail with your name and contact information. This would be a great opportunity to obtain your required 10 community service hours for graduation or hours for National Honor Society!
Attention students:
If you are interested in applying to become a House or Senate Page, please see the email below: House and Senate Page Applications The Page program is an incredible opportunity to meet students from across the state and get first-hand experience about state government. The first week for pages to serve during the 2018 Short Session will be May 21st through the last week of June. This program is highly competitive and requires a recommendation from a current representative. See this link to find your members. Each Member is allotted a certain number of students he or she can sponsor each session. Appointments are made on a first-come, first-serve basis. House and Senate offices should be receiving page applications mid-February and will send them out to students interested in serving as a page. Call or email your member of the House of Representatives or Senate to request an application.
Please see the email below for information regarding a volunteer opportunity. If you are interested, please contact Michelle Krug at [email protected].
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Krug, Melanie Michelle <[email protected]> Date: Mon, Feb 12, 2018 at 10:47 AM Subject: Volunteer for the 2018 UNC Dance Marathon To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Cc: Natalie Charamut <[email protected]> Dear Ms Tyndall, My name is Melanie Krug and I am on the Community Outreach Committee for the 2017 - 2018 year for the Carolina For The Kids Foundation. We are the largest student-run philanthropic organization in the state of North Carolina and work year-round to support the patients and families of UNC Children’s. As an organization, we believe that children should receive the fullest care possible while in the hospital. Unfortunately, there are several factors that get in the way of this care. We work throughout the year to lessen these burdens by providing support and funding for things that medical insurance does not cover. One way that we work for the kids is by reaching out into the community, specifically by creating partnerships with local schools and organizations. I am reaching out to you to see if the students at South Lenoir High School would be interested in volunteering at our annual UNC Dance Marathon this March 23rd and 24th. I understand that many students are involved in organizations and clubs in which a certain number of service hours are required. Volunteering at the UNC Dance Marathon is a great way for students to get their required service hours while also having lots of fun with other students. There are two ways students can volunteer at the Marathon. They can choose to be a motivator or a volunteer. Motivators participate in a 6-hour shift at the UNC Dance Marathon and are required to raise $60. They cheer on students who have pledged to stand for 24 hours and help make sure the Marathon is running smoothly. Volunteers are required to raise $30 and participate by helping with the set up or cleanup for the Marathon. Set-up will begin Thursday, March 22nd and cleanup will begin at 7pm March 24th. All motivators and volunteers will also receive a t-shirt during the Marathon. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you so much for your consideration to help us with our upcoming Marathon. The Carolina For The Kids Community Outreach team hopes that you all will be able to participate in our biggest event of the year. To sign up to volunteer/motivate, please follow the link below and select “Register as an Individual”. http://uncdm.convio.net/site/TR/Events/General?pg=entry&fr_id=1090 2018 UNC Dance Marathon - Carolina For The Kids uncdm.convio.net UNC Dance Marathon, Dance Marathon 24 hour event, for the kids South Lenoir juniors will take the ACT on February 27. Before students are allowed to take the test, ACT requires each student to complete a NonTest portion of the test. The Nontest portion will be administered to the juniors on Wednesday, February 21st during 1st block in the cafeteria. Junior students who are taking a 1st block face to face LCC class on the SL campus will complete their nontest portion during second block. If you are an off campus LCC student, it is imperative you come to school on Wednesday, the 21st at the beginning of 1st block to complete this process. You cannot take the ACT without this being completed. Thank you for your cooperation.
Josten's will be at SL on Tuesday March 27 during all 5 lunches to distribute senior items. All items must be paid for in advance or at the time of pick up. If you have not ordered your cap and gown package, you should see Mrs. Pollock immediately so these can be ordered in time to be delivered on the 27th. Late orders are now $75.
Pink Hill Elementary School is having their Jump Rope for Heart event Tuesday, February 27 and Wednesday, February 28. They are in search of volunteers to help make the event successful. Please see the schedule below. However, since this event is during the school day, if you have classes during the scheduled times on campus at SL, you will be counted absent if you attend this event, which will count towards your allotted 10 days you are allowed to miss. Several of you take all online courses and would be able to participate at any time or all day. Others of you do not have a 1st or 4th block and could participate during those times. If you would like to participate, please contact Darlene Holloway at Pink Hill Elementary School.
Please see the attachment below for important dates for seniors. Take the time now to plan accordingly for events occurring in May and June. Students, if you have a job, please make sure to ask off for important dates (senior breakfast, graduation practices, graduation, etc.).
Also, if you have not purchased your cap and gown, please see Mrs. Pollock ASAP. Thanks! This is the official announcement for the first College Knowledge event of the year. I know that many of you are busy with school work, jobs, etc. and so in an effort to expose you all to the colleges you are interested in, I will be inviting representatives to South Lenoir during the school day. This way, you may ask face-to-face questions that they will know about the specific college they are from. This is a great opportunity and I hope you take advantage of it!
Our first College Knowledge is with Campbell University! A representative will arrive at 11am on February 15th in room 125. Please go by to see Ms. Trujillo to pick up a permission slip for your third block teacher to sign so you may attend this event! A flyer to the event is attached as well. |
