This is a great way to go ahead and get ALL 10 hours needed for graduation! :) I hope each of you have had a great 1st week back to school. I wanted to send a reminder that in order to graduate and walk in the graduation ceremony, you are required to obtain 10 community service hours this year. These hours can not be "banked" hours from previous volunteer/community service projects, but instead they must be hours you have earned this school year starting on the first day of school. I have attached the flyer and actual community service log you will have to complete and turn in when you have obtained your hours. In order for your community service to be complete, you have to turn in your signed community service log, 3 photos, and a one page written description of your project. All 10 hours do not have to be completed at the same time, nor do they have to be completed at the same location. You are more than welcome to "spread the love" and participate in various events to obtain your hours. Early graduates must turn in their completed project (log, photos, paper) to Mrs. Beth Loftin in the counseling center on or before November 30th. Regular graduates must turn in their completed project to Mrs. Loftin on or before May 18th. The requirements and log are attached below. Please note, you only have to submit a pre-approval form to administration if your hours pertain to a campaign or religious event. Go ahead and get started accruing hours now. I will send out various opportunities throughout the semester when I am notified of events taking place in the community.
Southwood Elementary School's Harvest Festival is planned for Friday, November 2nd. This would be a great opportunity for you to begin accruing hours toward your 10 required community service hours needed for graduation. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Mrs. Beth Loftin via email at [email protected]. You can also stop by the counseling center to see her. Please make sure you send your name, email address and phone number.
This is a reminder Senior Walks at Moss Hill, Pink Hill and Southwood will be held on Friday, May 18th at 9:00 am. If you would like to participate, you must sign up with Mrs. Loftin in the counseling center BEFORE Friday, May 11th so we can give a head count to the schools.
Below are a few reminders for the day: 1 - You will need to arrive to the elementary school of your choice by 8:45am to prepare for the walk. 2 - Report to the main office to check in with a SL representative and the elementary school representative. 3 - You are responsible for your transportation to the elementary school and back to South Lenoir. 4 - You are required to wear your cap and gown to this event. Arriving before 8:45 will allow you ample time to put your cap and gown on so it does not get wrinkled wearing it in the car. 5 - You do not have to report to SL first since the event is so early, however, if you do not show for the senior walk, you will be counted absent. 1 - After graduation - your SCHOOL email will no longer be available to you - THIS INCLUDES ITEMS IN YOUR GOOGLE DRIVE associated with your SCHOOL email. Since your school email is wiped away shortly after graduation, you need to begin taking care of switching emails and other assignments to a current or new email address NOW! If you have important items (such as projects, papers, important emails, etc) in your school email, please go ahead and start forwarding them to a current email you already have, or create a new email.
2 - Change important accounts - If you have used your SCHOOL email to create important accounts, such as ACT, SAT, AP testing, CFNC, etc., you need to go ahead and switch those accounts NOW! Go ahead, log into your current account and change the settings to a new email address. Doing so will prevent a lot of headache down the road when you need to access these accounts. 3 - Students taking LCC classes currently in high school - It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to go to LCC to request a LCC FINAL TRANSCRIPT to send to the college you are planning to attend in the fall. Once your LCC classes end for the semester - which is coming quickly - you need to go ahead and request a final transcript to be sent to the college of your choice. I would also request a hard copy for yourself to take to summer college orientations - this will ensure you have proof of your courses when you meet with your new college advisor. If you are currently taking LCC courses and are planning to continue at LCC, there is no need for a transcript to be requested and sent. 4 - Final Official High School Transcripts - Please make sure you let me know NOW of where you are planning to attend college in the fall. Most of you have already done so, but if your plans change, you need to let me know. If you are going into the military or entering the workforce, you need to let me know as I will not need to send a transcript off for you. This is your last FREE transcript that will get sent. If you have told me where you are attending in the fall, your final transcript will automatically be sent to the college you have indicated. Please do not overload my email or the counseling center with transcript requests. Colleges are going to send you reminders about sending your final transcripts, however, if you have told me where you are attending, I promise your transcript will be sent. Your transcript will not be sent until at least the WEEK AFTER GRADUATION. 5 - Final transcripts and graduation - You will also a receive an official high school transcript AT GRADUATION or with your diploma if you are not planning to walk. If I were you, I WOULD NOT OPEN this transcript, especially if you are planning to attend an early college orientation (June). By having this official transcript on hand, many colleges will go ahead and use the one you have on your person during orientation to help you register for your college courses.
