Attached is the application for the Head Start Association Khari Garvin Annual Scholarship Award. This scholarship is for a student who attended Head Start. Completed applications must be returned to Ms. Worthington at the Head Start office by Friday, December 15th. The scholarship is for $1,000. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Worthington at 252-208-1651 ext. 227 or 560-2996. The BBB Torch Scholarship application is now available. This program recognizes students who personify high ethical standards as demonstrated through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity, and academic success. Scholarship prizes will be as follows - 1 $5,000 scholarship, 2 $3,000 scholarships, 3 $2,000 scholarships, and 3 $1,000 scholarships. To be eligible, students must submit an essay of 500-1000 words, along with an application, transcript and letter of recommendation from a BBB Accredited Business. (A list of these businesses can be found at bbb.org/raleigh-durham/accredited-business-directory). Completed application packets are due by 4:30 PM, Wednesday, January 31. The Golden LEAF Scholarship is now available. This scholarship will award 215 grants, each valued at $12,000 total ($3,000 per year for up to four years). Please see the attachment below for eligibility criteria and the link to the application. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2018. In addition to the scholarship application, students must also submit their completed FAFSA applications.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is now accepting applications for its next cohort of Teacher Education Fellows. We hope that you will share the attached flyer with any of your seniors interested in careers in teaching. The UNCG Teacher Education Fellows Program awards a $20,000.00 scholarship distributed incrementally over four years of study at UNCG. In addition to scholarships, the UNCG Teacher Education Fellows Program includes a variety of other benefits, including integrated seminars, networking events, community engagement opportunities, and leadership development. Fellows also live in relative proximity to one another as part of the Residential Colleges or Lloyd International Honors College. Additionally, Fellows study abroad during their sophomore year as part of the global focus of the program. To be eligible for participation in the UNCG Teacher Education Fellows Program, a student must be a North Carolina resident and have a recommended minimum 3.80 weighted cumulative high school GPA and a minimum SAT verbal and math score of 1170 or ACT composite score of 24. Students must also select one of the following UNCG majors that lead to N.C. teaching licensure: *Elementary Education *Middle Grades Education *Special Education *Dual (Elementary and Special) Education *One of the following majors in the College of Arts and Sciences with Secondary Education concentrations: - Anthropology - Biology - Chemistry - Economics - English - Geography - History - Integrated Science - Mathematics - Physics - Political Science - Psychology - Sociology If you meet these criteria, we hope they will consider applying for a spot in this scholarship program by completing the UNCG Teacher Education Fellows Application. Priority will be given to those applications (to both the University and the Program) received by January 1, 2018.
Elks also assists college-bound high school seniors who are the children or grandchildren of dues-paying Elks members. Applicants compete against other children and grandchildren from the state of their sponsoring Elks Lodge. They are judged on the core values of the Elks National Foundation: Knowledge, Charity, Community Service, Integrity. Applications must be submitted online before February, 2, 2018, at 11:59 a.m. The application can be found at enf.elks.org/leg.
