To qualify for the LCC Guarantee, students must graduate from a service area high school in Lenoir, Greene, or Jones county – public, private, or homeschool – with NC resident eligibility, complete nine CCP credits with a C or better while in high school, graduate high school with a 3.0+ unweighted GPA, and enroll as a full-time student the following fall semester at LCC after high school graduation. The scholarship covers all tuition and required general student fees (book costs and program specific fees are not covered) after all other financial aid is applied (Pell & other scholarships the student may qualify for). To apply for the scholarship, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the LCC Scholarship application by the last Friday in March each year.
To maintain eligibility for the LCC Guarantee Scholarship, the students must:
- Complete at least 12 credit hours each semester (based on degree plan)
- Maintain a college GPA of 3.0+ to renew the scholarship each semester
- Participate in at least one LCC sponsored club, sport, or work-based learning course each semester
- Meet two times each semester with the assigned academic advisor
- Have no discipline-related suspensions
The benefits to our students, their families, our area high schools, our businesses, our economy, our donors, and to our college are extraordinary and include the following, just to name a few:
- An affordable avenue to college for students and their parents
- A reduction in the need for student borrowing
- A fantastic recruiting tool for the college and our programs
- Attracting more highly prepared students to LCC
- Encouraging and students to work hard and achieve in high school
- Encouraging students to work hard, persist, achieve, and complete while at LCC
- Enhancing student engagement on campus
- Producing degreed students who will be employment ready and benefit our local businesses and industries
- Increasing overall LCC enrollment and improving performance measures
I hope you are as excited about our LCC Guarantee Scholarship as I am. This program would not be possible without the tremendous support of our generous donors. So let me say a huge THANK YOU to each of you who contribute to our LCC Foundation and of course the many external donors that are so supportive of you and our students. I also want to thank our LCC team that has worked on making this LCC Guarantee a reality. Maggie Brown headed up a committee that included Jeanne Kennedy, Dr. Deborah Grimes, Deborah Sutton, Kim Hill, JD Gibbs, Athena Wilson, and Richy Huneycutt. That committee reimagined how we can support our students and improve our great college, and they came up with a solution that addresses all three of our strategic goals to Engage, Invest, and Achieve. I am so proud of the work that they have done and the enthusiasm for making a difference!
If you have any questions about the LCC Guarantee or if someone asks for more information, please contact Jeanne Kennedy in the Foundation office and she will be happy to help.
